Teaching in Mariupol

Here is the picture of the infamous train.  If my Ukranian students are starting to read this… Yak Spravy!

Class #1.  These guys can accurately use the word “Foschizzle!”  Example.  Mr. Bundy is awesome.  Response.  “Fooschizzle!”

Class #2.  When they leave class or see me in the hall, they say “peace out!” We had a great discussion about their feelings about Lenin and Stalin.  Their history is much diferent than ours and they admire much of what Lenin did and Stalion also.  I talked some about Roosevelt and our contemporary leaders.  Quite interesting.  Se the guy on the back row, 2nd from the left?  He looks just like Austin!  Don’t you think!?

Class #3.  This was the most serious class.  We talked about politics and social issues.  Much like you guys.  Very intellectual bunch!

The tradition is for Ukranian couples in Mariupol that are getting married to put a lock on this little bridge and throw away the key.  It signifies a love that can’t be broken, just like the lock can’t be broken.  I put a lock on for Mrs. Bundy.  See, I am one romantic dude..again!

They engrave their names on the lock.

Not only do I like pigeons, but for some reason when I have birdseed..they flock to me!

    • Emilee, Thank you for the note. You are now my favorite student n the class, but you can share this response with those other trouble makers. I am quite happy that students in Ukraine can accurately use the word “foschizzle,” my life as an educator has reached an all-time high!

The tie idea is a good one. I will keep my eye out for a nice ukranian tie. I saw a stray cat the other day, but a pack of wild dogs was chasing it, so I am not sure how that story will end. Look up on youtube “stray dogs in Mariupo”l..it is crazy!

  2. Hey Matt – looks like you are having a great time! I am enjoying following you on your trip! Your comments regarding the students’ view of Lenin and Stalin were interesting. It got me thinking about an activity for my sociology students to do.

  3. We hope that u will remember Ukraine for a long time!

    • All right! A comment from one of my Ukranian students! I am having a great time in Mariupol and you guys are awesome! I would stay here forever, but I would miss Mrs. Bundy and my students in Idaho too much. I get to teach at the Lyceum again this week, see you on Monday! Peace Out!

  4. I can’t believe how impressive the Old Soviet Monuments are. Also, interesting how relative history is. Thanks for sharing and have a great trip.

    • Thanks! I am teaching about six classes a day. They are really getting there moneys worth out of me. Tomorrow I will be “lecturing” atMariupol University to law and economics students. I think I have them fooled into thinking I am pretty smart. 🙂
